Color Scheme Paintings 2.0

Sixth grade artists recently studied color schemes (warm, cool, monochromatic, complimentary) and landscape art. Then we painted original landscapes using one color scheme. Check them out:

What've we been doing lately?

Lately I've been slacking on the weekly updates. So I want to post one mega-update with some of the things art students have been doing lately.

Newspaper Sculptures

Recently the current group of sixth grade artists spent a few days learning about the element of art form by making sculptures out of newspaper. We began by talking about form and 3-dimensional art, and then we discussed how to engineer newspaper so that it can support its own weight. Students were then taught how to roll newspaper into rods to be used to create their sculptures. There were only 2 rules for the creation of these sculptures: 1- it must stand on its own 2- it must support its own weight. Check out some of the work below:

Digital Collages

7th grade graphic arts students recently finished digital collages in Photoshop. Students found images online that they thought represented their personalities and then edited them in Photoshop. Next we discussed how to arrange them in an interesting way that some of the images would overlap and have different proportions in order to create visual interest. I was really pleased with the work that these students did on this unit, they have come a really long way in their ability to edit images and to cut them out from a background. Check them out below:
