Notan 2.0
Check out some Notan collages from quarter 2 7th grade students below:
This assignment explores contrast, proportion, balance, and space. Students learned about these things and then created a design that demonstrates that understanding.

Weekly Update 11/04/13 - 11/08/13
Sixth Grade
Sixth graders spent most of the week working with the element of shape. We talked about the difference between organic and geometric shapes and when we all knew what those were students created creatures using only organic or geometric shapes. These drawings were finished on Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday we worked on beginning our newspaper sculptures which we will continue next week.
Seventh Grade
In seventh grade we discussed balance, proportion, and space and talked about the Japanese design concept of Notan. We made collages which represented our new found knowledge and mimicked Notan through our use of color and symmetry.
Eighth Grade
Eighth graders spent the week learning about coil building pottery. They made a coil built vessel this week, which are drying out as I type this. I'll fire them next week and hopefully we can glaze the week after that. Pictures should come soon.

Gifs part 2
7th Grade digital art students started the grading period out with a GIF project. First they drew a character that served as an alter ego for themselves. Some students chose to do animal versions of themselves, superheroes, athletes, or just them in a different outfit. Then we used the digital painting software ArtRage to create a background painting on the computers. We put all of the images into photoshop and edited everything and created frames of animation. Lastly we used gifpal.com to create our GIFs. I'm really proud of the work that these students did. Check out the great animations below.
Digital Shape Collages
Seventh Grade digital art students made these quick digital collages using the shape tool in photoshop. This week we are doing digital collages using images that tell the viewer about us. The students did these practice images to play around with the layering tool in photoshop. Students were exploring interesting ways to layer images in a composition. Look out for the real collages soon, I just really liked these and wanted to share them.
