El Dia de los Muertos calaveras paintings

The whole school is studying Latin American culture right now in their elective classes. Tomorrow we will have grade level assemblies to celebrate the culture of Latin America with demonstrations and performances. The art classes studied the Day of the Dead (el Dia de los Muertos) and the skull imagery used to celebrate the holiday. We made large scale group paintings inspired by the day of the dead.

Sixth Grade Name Sculptures

The first project we did in sixth grade this year was a sculpture project using the letters of our names. Students created interesting letters on cardstock and cut them out in order to assemble them into one large sculptural piece. We discussed visual interest, form vs. shape, and the engineering that goes into creating a 3D structure. They are on display for a while in the library. If you get a chance stop by to check them out, they look much better in person!
