7th Grade graphic arts students recently created their own animated GIFs. They drew the frames and paced the animations and used an online gif creator (gifmaker.me) to finish the animation. They turned out awesome. Check them out below!

Notan Collages
Seventh graders just finished studying the Japanese design concept of
notan (the interplay of light and dark). We then made collages using
this knowledge. Students made their designs while thinking about
symmetry, proportion, and positive/negative space. Excuse the horrible
picture quality-- the lighting in the hallway did not lend itself to
good pictures. The real work is so much better than these pictures show!

El Dia de los Muertos calaveras paintings
The whole school is studying Latin American culture right now in their elective classes. Tomorrow we will have grade level assemblies to celebrate the culture of Latin America with demonstrations and performances. The art classes studied the Day of the Dead (el Dia de los Muertos) and the skull imagery used to celebrate the holiday. We made large scale group paintings inspired by the day of the dead.
