Landscape Painting

8th Grade visual arts students recently finished their landscape paintings. The each chose a season to depict. They were responsible for showing a background, middleground, and foreground in their composition.

Pattern Animals

7th grade visual arts students just completed these animal drawings. They had to incorporate the principle of design pattern into their drawing. We colored them in Sharpie and watercolor paint.

Notan Collages

Seventh graders just finished studying the Japanese design concept of notan (the interplay of light and dark). We then made collages using this knowledge. Students made their designs while thinking about symmetry, proportion, and positive/negative space. Excuse the horrible picture quality-- the lighting in the hallway did not lend itself to good pictures. The real work is so much better than these pictures show!
